Riggs MAI have been the head coach at T.R. Miller going on 23 years now.  That covers a lot of football games.  Now what I am about to say will sound a little crazy but all football coaches are a little bit crazy. Every game we have played for the last 23 years.......I believed we were going to win! Even during our 2007 season when we had our only losing season, I believed we were going to win or at very least to make this tremendous effort against a superior opponent that would make you feel like a winner when you left the field.  To me that is what the games are about.  How do you feel as a player or coach about your performance?  Did you prepare properly? Do you know deep down inside that you gave your greatest effort? I have found that those individuals that give their greatest effort and know they have done so, have no regrets.  When your helmet comes off and you start to the dressing room, how do you feel?

All coaches tend to get nervous before games but I seldom get nervous when I feel that we have a good game plan and that we have prepared the way we should.  If we have taught the players the proper fundamentals, they have a good plan of action and they are emotionally strong, I never worry about the opponents. Too many times in life we spend more time worrying about our opponents than concentrating on our own performance. Control what you have control over. Most of the big games we have won were not because our game plan beat our opponent. It was because we were so good at something, we were so emotionally prepared that we dominated the other team with our spirit.  All good teams play to their strengths. At Miller one of our greatest strengths is our spirit.  So we must play to it every Friday night. If we play without the Miller spirit we are in trouble.

Thanks to all of those Tiger players of the past that played with the T.R. Miller spirit. May we always believe we will win. May we always play with the Miller spirit. And it is my hope that the Miller spirit will be evident to all!

It is great to have a head coach and assistants that care more about character and integrity than football and winning. They realize that most of these young men are not going to play at the next level and the coachs do their best to prepare them for life in these two fundamentals and teamwork. We are truly proud and thankful for you all. Go Miller tigers! and Roll Tide!
