This past Friday, we lost our first game when we were defeated by the Straughn Tigers 28-21.    They were very prepared and played a great game.  We knew that they would....we always get everyone's best game.  We offer no excuses. Our guys played very hard and were very disappointed by the loss.  We did some things in the game that you cannot do and win against a good team.  But we still had an opportunity to pull out the game in the 4th quarter, as we have done many times over the last two years.  But on this night it wasn't to be.

We have learned a lot about our self over the last few days.  You learn much more from adversity than you do through success.  The euphoria off success will often mask your difficulties.  But a loss seems to open everyone's eyes to your failures.  Every time we fail, it simply gives us an opportunity to show our greatness.  Anyone can swim with the current.....but only the best swimmers can swim upstream.  Adversity allows everyone to see the best "swimmers"  on the team.  The ability to step up during times of duress is a character issue and not a talent issue.  We have seen that over the last few days.

The best players we have had on our teams down through the years always became more determined after a loss.  They refused to give in to the defeat, thus limiting the damage of the loss.  In fact many of them led us to great victories after that tough loss because they recognized an important fact.  There can be no great victories without great adversity!! (Woody Hayes)

We desire a great victory!  So we need to get together as a team and get that good ole T.R. Miller determination for victory.  If we do, we might just turn a good season into a great one.
